The Danger of Entertaining the Forbidden.

Image
The Danger of Entertaining the Forbidden By Liz King     How many times do we blame God for the choices we have made? Do we get mad for consequences of our decisions? Has your life fallen apart or not turned out the way you liked or how you saw it?  Are you in addiction, broken marriage, can't get away from pornography, can't forgive, or in a constant cycle of falling and hopelessness?  Are you lacking fulfillment physically and spiritually?  Have you hurt yourself or others around you?  Why is that?  It is because we entertain the things that are forbidden by God.  It is also something we do with our choice being at the center of these problems.  It also shows us a lack of our true foundation in God.       Reading Genesis recently, I began to see the first chapter as a book of firsts.  At first everything God says was good.  Everything worked in perfect harmony and was the glory of God.  ...

Shake the Foundation of Your Prison

Image
Shake the Foundation of Your Prison By Liz King     I have just started a bible study called Rooted. Today as I was doing my daily study/homework for the class, I saw something I knew but had never really seen before.  In Acts 16:25-26 I was reading, and it says,  "25  About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them . 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose."    Acts 16:25-26 New International Version.     We all go through trials and tribulations in life.  I have had my fair share.  We can lock ourselves in emotional, physical, and spiritual prisons.  We can place chains or spiritual bonds on ourselves that we see no way of freeing ourselves.  Some bonds are invisible, and you cannot see them or feel them, but t...

Healing From A Past of Hurt

Image
Healing From a Past of Hurt by Liz King     The hurt we suffer from childhood can follow us throughout our adult lives.  It has a habit of defining us and crippling us.  We believe the lies we have been told or define our worth on the treatment that we suffered as children.  Even in a life with Christ it has given the enemy strongholds that need to be broken.  I am speaking from experience.  I truly think satan's mission is to destroy us when we are young so we cannot be who God created us to be.  Without the proper guidance it makes it almost impossible to move forward in your faith because you can't get past the lies of the enemy.       Even though I have been a believer for a very long time there have been strongholds that have drug me down and hindered me from growing spiritually.  I have now sought biblical counseling to see the things from my past that have disabled me emotionally and spiritually.  G...

Quit Saying Rest in Peace

Image
Quit Saying Rest in Peace by Liz King     Last night Lisa Marie Presley passed away into eternity.  My mind wonders if she knew Jesus.  When finding out she went into cardiac arrest, I began praying that she would have the chance to choose him before she died.  When I hear someone dies, the first question I ask is did they have a relationship with Jesus Christ. That one question determines everything on how I deal with the death of that person.  If they DID have a relationship with Jesus Christ then I can rejoice, because their life has just begun.  I will miss them but I will see them again.  If They DID NOT know Jesus or denied him, that breaks me because then I will never be able to see them again.       Today So many people drive around with car windows decorated with the name of a loved one and it says Rest in Peace.  Another phrase is Fly High, or Now Heaven's Angel.  Rappers are being shot all the time a...

Is Your Relationship With God One Sided?

Image
Is Your Relationship With God One Sided By Liz King       No one likes a one sided relationship where you give everything to the other person and all they do is take. You pour your heart out to them, sacrifice for them, shower them with gifts, but the other person never notices but only demands more of you. Sometimes maybe you are brushed off or even more is demanded of you. You go out of your way and give to them and they don’t even say thank you or acknowledge what you’ve done. Sometimes even though you have given everything for the other person, they leave and go to someone else. Now I want you to see yourself as the other person and the one doing everything in the relationship is Jesus.    Prayer is essential in our relationship with Christ but for some it is not an essential and that is why so many are weak in their faith.  Prayer is talking to God. It’s not a well worded formal prayer, it is speaking your heart in truth. It is talking to G...

The Danger in Traditions

Image
The Danger in Traditions By Liz King     Galatians 1-2     Many have been hurt by the traditions of man and cannot separate religion from relationship with God. The spirit of religion mixed with man’s tradition can hurt and detour one’s seeking a relationship with God and those looking for something greater than themselves on their quest for truth.  We need to live a life according to the truth of the gospel, not only in churches, but also our lives. We need to break free from the concept of Jesus being a religion and a tradition and live a life in truth and freedom in Christ. I, from personal experience, can understand why  people have a hard time separating the two and the message of who Jesus is gets lost in man based religious traditions.  Hurting the people who Jesus came to save. This hurt then always gets tied to God/Jesus and they cannot separate the truth from the lie. Today, I began to study Galatians in preparation for Sunday....

The Danger of Forgetting God

Image
The Danger of Forgetting God By Liz King     Today I was reading Psalms 78 and it is about the Israelites constant abandonment of God.  It is about his kindness and forgiveness.  One thing as I was reading that stuck out to me was the Israelites wanted their way and that caused them to forget God.  In verse 10-11 it talks about how they refused to walk in his law, and they forgot His works and wonders He had shown them.  How many times do we do that as Christians?  We forget where he has brought us from, prayers he has answered, miracles he's done in our lives.  I have done that many times.  God healed my son of Cystic Fibrosis as a baby and many times I think well, maybe all those separate tests were wrong but yet I know they weren’t . I have seen him restore my life but then sometimes I think well maybe it's just chance, but I know it wasn’t.  That is dangerous to forget the mercy and greatness our God has sh...

The Danger of footholds

Image
The Danger of Footholds By: Liz King     Anger is a very dangerous emotion that is tied with hate and bitterness.  I truly think that they are all tied together because once anger gets a foothold the others are sure to follow.  That is a very dangerous place to be.  As children of the most High God, we are to live differently, love differently, deal with things differently than our human nature wants us to do.  There is such a thing as holy anger, but the bible warns us to be angry and do not sin.  There is righteous anger, but it becomes dangerous when we dwell in that place of anger causing it to become sinful anger.       I feel like I am to write about this because this is what came to me.  I recently gave a foothold to anger, and it spiraled into a foothold the enemy used to give me the spirit of oppression.  As I seek God more, I begin to see the battle that is fought for our souls.  T...
