The Broken Doll
By Liz King
Once there was a little girl doll who seemed broken beyond repair. Her hair was matted and had bald spots where others had pulled it out. She had holes and marks from where she had been unappreciated and abused. She could no longer laugh no matter how hard she tried. Only one eye worked, the other was stuck, and she no longer had tears to cry. Her dress was mangled and tattered and she was missing an arm, but most of all she had a broken heart.
She went to many masters to try to get herself fixed, but none seemed to listen or care. They all said the doll was too broken or trash, or she was not important enough to fix. They told the doll to just give up because she wasn’t worth anyone’s time and no one would want or love her anyway.
After a while the doll began to believe what the other masters said. She gave up and wander around, looking for a place to wallow and hide. All she knew was she was damaged and put to the side. No one wanted her. She felt broken and despised.
How could she ever be more than the lie. She was not loved, cherished, and whole, she was just broken, unloved, and alone.
She found a dark alley where she thought no one would go and she hid behind a wood pile as it started to snow.
As the snow piled up the dolls heart broke even more, for she no lounger found her life to have hope.
When nighttime came there was a creak of a door and out came a man from a carpenter store.
He picked up some wood and said, “ Oh, my!”
He picked up the doll and he began to cry.
“Oh, you poor little thing, I must get you in. I will help you become whole again.”
He took her in with the greatest care and showed her love like she’d never seen.
She said, “Give up on me, I’m not worth your time. I no longer giggle, nor can I cry.”
The gentle man said, “You don’t understand all you need is the help and the touch of a true masters hand.
I see your worth and beauty within, I know your heart is broken and dim.”
The doll replied, “ you cannot fix me. I’m not worth your time. No one wants me, your hope is a lie. I have been told over and over again, told my every flaw and mistake that I’ve been.”
The Carpenter cradled her and gave her his love. He said, “You’re not a mistake, you’re precious to me. I’ll make you perfect because of my love. I’m sorry others have hurt you, and torn you down, pulled you apart and broken your heart. I am not like the others you see, I am more than you think me to be.”
Slowly and lovingly he took her apart to restore her again part by part. Little by little she began to change and love started filling her once broke heart. When the carpenter finished she was like she was new. She looked in the mirror and did a twirl. She was brand new. She was perfect, made whole and restored. Her brown hair shined with beautiful curls and her eyes sparkled blue. She had a tiara and she had a new dress too. She looked at herself and her smile grew and she began to giggle and a tear flowed from her eye just a little bit too.
“How did you do it?!” The little doll cried. “ I was told I was worthless, worth no one’s time, but look at me now. I’m restored like new!”
The carpenter smiled at the restored little doll, took her hand and said, “ Because I’m the one who loved you the most. I am the master who wanted you most. You are more special to me than you think. Im the one who created you a long time ago. I gave you to a girl who wanted you so. She promised to love you and care for you too. I’m sorry their love for you started to change. I’m sorry for all the hurt and the pain. I’m sorry that they caused anguish, telling you that you were something that you really aren’t. Im sorry if they blamed you and said everything is your fault. Im sorry if they manipulated you while they tore you apart. You are more precious than they could see. You are so precious, so precious to me.
You are so very special to me and I’m the only one who can set you free. I can tell you who you really are. I’m the one who restores what is broken. I love you and cherish you with all my heart. You are my creation. You came from my heart and I loved you from the very start. Stay with me my darling child. Let me tell you all you are. Let me wipe your tears away and hear your giggles which is music to my ears. Stay with me, I’ll hold you close. I’ll protect you. Well laugh and sing and I’ll be your hope.”
The little doll took the carpenters hand, hugged him tight and she became known as the most beautiful doll to ever been made. She was no longer broken, she was made new. The lies from the past no longer had strength because her masters love was all that she needed.
