Unveiling of the Heart
Unveiling of the Heart
By Liz King
Our hearts reveal a lot about us. Our actions and words come directly from the condition of the heart. I’ve felt strongly that I am to write about the heart. As I have been deep in God’s word the last few months for a podcast I am a part of, I have seen one constant theme throughout the scriptures that we study, our heart condition. Jesus tells us to guard our hearts, to judge the fruits of the heart, and that in our words and actions our hearts will be revealed. He called out the hearts of the Pharisees in Matthew 12:34 calling them vipers but Jesus also says, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”. God addresses our heart condition over one thousand times in the Bible, this means that our heart condition is very important to God, but it also reveals who we are in line with spiritually. Proverbs 10:11, “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” This means it is important that we really and sincerely examine our hearts. I encourage you to read this blog in its entirety because there is much depth to it.
About a week and a half ago something devastating happened on American soil. On September 10, 2025, a young man, Charlie Kirk, was gunned down for speaking his mind and encouraging other young people to have open dialogue with him. Many did not agree with him but he stood on biblical truth and went against the thoughts and opinions of the world. Many state he spewed hate and slandered him calling him a Nazi and Fascist, but he didn’t. He encouraged young people to step outside the narrative and seek the truth for themselves and continuously pointed others to Jesus Christ. He also expressed the importance of open dialogue and talking to each other even though people might be on opposite sides. He said, “When people stop talking, that’s when violence happens.”, and he was right. This is not a political writing, this is a spiritual writing. Love him or hate him, which we should not hate, I should say disagree, an innocent man’s life was taken. My heart broke and especially knowing that it was witnessed by his wife and little girl. His death has rocked a nation and the world. Next to 9/11 and October 7, this is one of the biggest tragedies to rock the world in my lifetime.
The news of Charlie Kirk’s death traveled fast. For many, like myself, tears flowed. We witnessed the slaughter and execution of a brother in Christ on American soil. This act truly was a turning point for many but it also shifted something spiritually. Hearts were revealed. Many people began filming themselves and posting of themselves dancing, laughing, and mocking this man’s death. Many called for more executions. My son’s friends at school were even laughing and saying our president should be next. He came home so upset. How could his friends be so horrible and rejoice in evil and call for more violence to people they do not like and a few proclaimed to be Christians. I had to explain that it was evil and it revealed their true heart. They did not have an active relationship with Jesus. Jesus would never celebrate the death of anyone. They lacked compassion because they were not truly connected to the vine. Sadly, I know that one is only “Christian” by name and because they go to church on Sunday but they bear no true spiritual fruit.
We should never glorify and rejoice in the death of another. That is rooted in wickedness and evil. Many people rejoicing in his death were “Christians” or at least they called themselves that. I heard many say, “He got what he deserved. You spew hate, you die by hate.” I even had people angry that we were mourning his death and saying how dare you honor him and not children’s deaths by gun violence. We weren’t even allowed to mourn his death without being criticized. Every life is precious, every life is an eternal soul destined for heaven or hell and to celebrate the extinguishing of a life is not to be celebrated, even if they were Hitler. There is relief in the death of an evil life like Hitler’s, who slaughtered so many Jewish people, but his death should not be celebrated because he now is spending an eternity in hell where he chose citizenship. He chose to not repent and because of that I know where his eternal destination is. That is not something to celebrate.
The hearts of people truly were revealed in the world in this incident. The manifestation of evil that had been hidden in their hearts, sprung forth to the surface. Many have harbored hate and bitterness in their heart. Many do not realize that they have it and it is hidden under pride and self-righteousness, believing they are right. Many believe their heart pure, but can never really know the deceit and evil hidden in their heart till circumstances reveal it. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, desperately sick; who can understand it?” Mark 7:21-23, “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Jesus didn’t even trust us. In John 2:24-24 talks about how, “Jesus didn’t entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.” No matter how holy you think you are or how true and pure you believe your heart to be, it is not. We must constantly submit the condition of our heart to God. We must ask him to change it. Our hearts are even hidden from ourselves, but not God. It says in Proverbs 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs (examines) the heart.” 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” We will be held accountable for every word we speak. Matthew 12:36, “But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an account for every careless or useless word they speak.”
What does your heart speak? What is the overflow of your heart? How do you respond to those you dislike or disagree with? Do you rejoice in evil? Did you rejoice or agree with the death of someone you did not agree with? Are you ruled by hate, bitterness, or even fear? Who feeds you and your ideals? Who leads you in your opinions and ideologies. Do you allow the media to shape your beliefs? A party to tell you what is right, wrong, and acceptable? Do you let the world shape your morality? Do the ones you entertain or believe lead you by hate, anger, pride, bitterness, and fear? Do they tell you who to hate? Do you allow the world or those living in the world and influenced by the world to shape your truth and moral compass? Do they lead you in fear or in peace? They are not to be leading you. What we entertain and who we entertain feeds our spirit and heart. Jesus and the bible are the only ones to be leading and feeding you. His voice is the only one we are to listen to. If you are living in fear and not peace your heart is not protected it is compromised. Our hearts are only protected and changed when our truth, beliefs, and ideals are shaped by the Word of God and Christ himself.
This event that happened truly showed me who was really connected to the vine and who was connected to evil because their hearts were revealed. I saw who sided with the world and who sided with God. You cannot claim Christ and side with the world or agendas when they are outside of God’s truth. The world’s heart is noisy, emotional, and rooted in hate, fear, anger, and pride. God’s truth and heart are rooted in peace, holy spiritual love (not sexual), kindness, patience, and self-control. We love our enemies, we do not rejoice in their destruction. Proverbs 24:17-18, “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles, lest the Lord see it and be displeased, and turn away his anger from him.” We do not want the holy, just, and righteous anger of God turned from the wicked onto us. We need to examine our hearts and see if it is rooted in limited and conditional worldly “love”, or is it rooted in eternal holy Godly love. We must constantly examine our true heart condition. We must ask, “Who does my heart truly reflect?”
I truly believe there has been a shift in the spiritual realm and man’s hearts are truly being revealed and hearts are revealing who you serve. There has been a spiritual line drawn in the spiritual sand, in a sense, of good versus evil. Who and what is your heart connected and linked with? The enemy comes as an angel of light. He can speak in love and act like he cares but his true nature will be revealed in circumstances like this. It comes to the surface. Even if you agreed or condoned Charlie Kirk's death for a split second, your heart is connected to evil. You need to seek forgiveness and repent and examine your heart. If you know Jesus as your personal savior, seek Him in the matter. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your true heart. This means you surrender yourself fully to him and lay down all pride and self-righteousness in order to receive truth. You fully submit to seeing the truth God reveals to you and change it according to His truth, not the world’s truth. The Bible tells us if we refuse to listen to the truth God will give us over to the lie. Romans 1:24, “So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired.” 2 Thessalonians 2:11, “So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies.” If you do not know Jesus as your personal savior and you have seen men’s hearts being revealed, even your own, understand that there is good and evil. The battleground is mankind and your soul is the prize. Understand that “Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, the spiritual forces of good and evil.”, Ephesians 6:12. Know that Jesus already won the battle and offers you forgiveness, eternal life, healing, and a new heart when you believe in Him and what He did for you and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior and surrender your entire life and being to him.
I encourage you to examine your hearts and see what truly is in it. What is coming out of you? Separate yourself from the media, the political agendas and just get in the presence of God and His word. Let him be your spiritual heart compass. Ask God to reveal your heart and uproot any lies, deceit, hate, anger, or bitterness that may be hidden. Come humbly before him and lay your opinions and beliefs at his feet. Do not come before him with any pride on what you believe. In eternity, that has no weight on what we think and believe. It only matters what God thinks and that we believed Him. If we believe man, who is mortal, corrupt, and flawed over God, then we are being led by wolves and not the Shepherd. So, stand before God and let him weigh your heart. He will reveal it and in His great grace, mercy and kindness, he will change it.
Pray this… Father, Lord God, change our hearts to be more like yours. Renew my mind and my heart. Give me a new spirit and a new mind. Give me a heart of flesh and not a heart of stone. Reveal your truth to me. Show me my true heart and where my heart needs to change. Remove from me any wickedness and slander. Take any pride hidden in my heart. Let me surrender to your truth and not mine. Let me not be ruled by fear or anger, let me be ruled by your peace and your truth alone. Give me spiritual discernment and lead me where you want me to go. Open my spiritual eyes and ears to hear your truth and not the world’s. Cover my mind with your truth. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
