Is Music Harmless or Spiritual???

Music Harmless or Spiritual?

By Liz King

Music is everywhere.  We hear it in elevators, grocery stores, cars, businesses, and pools.  Why do we need music everywhere as a society?  Music is something that is a part of  all of us.  Every person has that one song that is their favorite.  It can define a generation.  It can bring us joy or make us cry. It can make our bodies move.  We have songs that get stuck in our heads and are on repeat somewhere in our brain.  Music can inspire a revolution or help us mourn a death. It can even define a break up. They say music unites but what does it unite us with?   My question I ask today is, Is Music harmless or is it Spiritual?  Does it really matter what we listen to?  Does it really have that much of an impact on us?  Does it really influence us and why?

I remember the periods of my life that have been narrated by music in some way or another.  There are different kinds of songs for our different moods: hate, rage,  anger, sadness, depression, mourning, joy, hope, love, and for some even sex.  Music has the power to influence.  It is a tool to express our feelings, but is it harmless or is there a deeper meaning and purpose for it? Does it really hurt us to listen to things that we say we are against?  Does it really go in one ear and out the other?  Does it really influence us?  I say yes.  As I was thinking about it today, I felt the need to write and share what came to me.  Music is a part of God.  If we are made in the image of God, that means music is a part of us.  Music was used to worship God (Psalm 150:1-6, 2 Colossians 3:16), hear from Him (2 Kings 3:15), and it  even calmed the crazed demons affecting King Saul (1 Samuel 16:14-23).  We are even told to use music and singing to come before His presence (Psalm 100:2).  It is even said that Lucifer led the worship in heaven and was created with instruments inside him (Exekiel 28:13  NKJV).  So the enemy of this world and our souls knows the importance and power of worship and knows how to manipulate it against us and hurt God.

Music is powerful.  It can do many things spiritually.  It can take us before the presence of God, help us worship and praise, it can even help us hear from God.  It can calm us and help us sleep but it can also do things that endanger our spirits and soul.  Music is used, throughout the world, to invoke spirits, open spiritual portals, and even influence the spiritual realm.  It is used to conjure demonic entities, and it is used in many rituals.  Many musicians now use spells in their music and do demonic rituals in their concerts, without the audience even realizing it and unknowingly, they become a part of the ritual.  Many beloved and famous artists do this and parents take their kids to these concerts and think it's just an act or just a show.  It's not. Many young children are influenced by these artists and parents don’t even research the artists or the lyrics to see what they are allowing to entertain their children’s spirits. These spirits behind their music also manifest in the physical form as snakes, spiders, devil horns, and some blatantly mock Jesus in their props and videos and then say it’s art.  They mock no other deity, only Jesus. This to me shows it’s spiritual. This used to be well hidden in the music industry, but the world's hearts have gotten so far away from God that the enemy is now brazen and puts it right in your face. Many christians spirits are so compromised they cannot discern the evil that is right in front of them.  At the end of this blog I have posted pictures to show the manifestation of the spiritual realm in the music and musicians blatantly leading the children of this generation down this path of spiritual destruction.  Many of these musicians are Taylor Swift, Melanie Martinez, Beyonce, Lana Del Ray, Madonna, Lil Nas X, Jay Z, Kanye West, Doja Cat, Cardi B, Nikki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Rhianna, and Travis Scott.  There are many more but these are only a few.  That is why it is important to know who you and your children are listening to.

Music has a way of putting down our spiritual defenses and putting our spirit in a position to be lulled to sleep to where whatever message is embedded in the music helps us receive the message whether we like it or not. For example:  Why do commercials need jingles?  To help us dwell on and remember a product.  Music is used to influence.  Make you remember.  Music has power because it is an attribute of God and when misused by Satan it can cause us to unknowingly worship the things Jesus died for, the things that destroy us.  Satan knows and understands music and its power.  Why is it that these artists use satanic imagery or symbols?  They emulate and glorify what and who they worship.

Music can also change and affect the way we behave, think, and dress.  It can alter our moral compass.  We can become what we listen to.  It did me.  Music can cause you to become sexually promiscuous, violent, prideful, angry, and entitled.  When I was not a Christian I loved Madonna.  I would say I would never do anything like she would, but slowly I started becoming like her.  I began to dress like her and act like her. Her music began to influence my behavior.  The spirit that influenced her began influencing me because I let it enter my spirit.  If music has the power to change your thoughts and behavior it means that music is spiritual and it has a purpose.  God tells us to be careful what we let enter our hearts, our souls, and our minds. Why do people begin to act and dress gangster and thuggish when they listen to gang infused rap?  Why do people start smoking and getting high when they listen to music glorifying it?  Why do women become overly sexual when listening to certain artists?  Why do women dress immodestly and believe their beauty and power is in their body and not their spirit.  They can be outwardly beautiful but inside there is nothing but death and decay in their spirit. God looks at our spirit (1 Samuel 16:7).  If it is not good we are not good.  If we are good on the inside it will show on the outside on how we speak, act, and dress.   We will bear good fruit.   When people listen to certain artist's music long enough, people begin to embody and dress as their favorite artists they entertain.  I'm not saying all music is bad, but I am saying know who and what you let into your being, who you entertain and let into your spirit.  Who you allow to influence you because it can be spiritually deadly and you do not even realize it.  Sometimes asking yourself would Jesus entertain this? This will give you a good indication if it is good for you or not.

The world's music centers around the flesh: pride, selfishness, anger, pain, and power to self.  All these things are attributes of Satan and a fallen world; they are not attributes of God and what He wants us meditating on, glorifying, or worshiping.  We Just need to examine the life fruits of the artists themselves.  We need to examine what they themselves do and glorify.  What do they support?  How do they carry themselves?  God wants us to follow Him and His example.  He wants us to focus on things that are just, pure, lovely, things with virtue and praise (Phillipians 4:8).  So why do we choose to entertain pride, hate, sexual impurity, cheating, drugs, debauchery, drunkenness, and one night stands? Why do we allow our children to entertain things that hurt Him and break His heart.  Why do we allow them to entertain people who mock God and his truths? Why would we even let them consider entertaining people whose hearts and fruits are so far from God?  If life and death are in the power of the tongue, what are our children absorbing? Life or death?

Our Children are the casualties in this spiritual war.  Parents do not understand the importance of who their children listen to and follow.  They don't take time to study the lyrics and messages being implanted in their children’s hearts.  It’s important that we talk to our children about whom we entertain.  We want our children to entertain good role models, not ones that sleep around, dress immodestly, or practice witchcraft and are not spiritually nutritional.  If you eat bad fruit, you get sick.  The same is with what fruit you entertain and children absorb everything.  We easily forget our battle is not against flesh and blood, it's against the principalities of this world and we are the victims of this depraved battle for our souls.  So, it is important that we be vigilant and guard ours and our children’s spiritual health and spiritual nutrition.  I experienced this recently, when my daughter was given a record of a modern artist as a gift.  It was from an artist that I had cautioned her not to entertain.  I found it in her room one day when I was getting something for her and I began to go through the album and the lyrics.  The name of the album was Portals.  Right there that says it’s spiritual.  Some of the lyrics talked about spells and one was about using menstruation blood and the guy eating it.  I looked at the record and it was pink with blood smeared all over it.  I was shocked and mortified.  Blood is currency and powerful in the spiritual realm.  Why do you think Jesus had to shed His blood?  Because of its power.  We were bought with a very high price.  God Himself paid our debt, a debt no one could ever pay.  I was mortified at this album because my child had been entertaining it without understanding.  Innocence can be influenced when not guarded.  The more we put our defenses down and do not guard our spirit, the easier the enemy can invade and influence our mind, heart, and spirit.  Our hearts slowly get hardened to sin the more we entertain it and make us more susceptible and sympathetic to the enemy.

As music has gotten more worldly, so have the generations.  Music is always geared and targeted towards the youth and the youth then determine the truth for the generations to come.  They become the future.  Each generation has become more and more depraved and turning their hearts away from God.  They do not even see the need for God.  We have the blind leading the blind.  Truth is now altered and changed making them live and believe the lies of the world rather than the truth of God.  Music has now become even more dangerous thanks to music videos.  These music videos embody the spirits and the messages these artists push, believe,  worship and are influenced by.  So now we are attacked not only by our ears but also our eyes.  When we entertain something it is there to stay.  If music is not spiritual it would not glorify everything that is contrary to God, or glorify only God.  Entertaining a fallen world causes harm to those entertaining it.  We must always be on guard about what we entertain because it has an influence on us spiritually.

Even though we live in a fallen world God has the ultimate power.  He too has music for the young generation.  My favorite song is Jesus Freak and Nu Thang by DC
Talk.  That song, Jesus Freak, influenced a generation and became a war song on sharing the gospel without fear or hesitation for many of the youth of my day.  Satan is attacking the youth today very hard, but God’s pursuit for them is even harder.  He has given tons of artist and genre music that is reaching the youth of today and the future.  So, instead of entertaining the artists that despise God, entertain the ones who honor and glorify God.  Pray for the artists and musicians that are leading this young generation astray.  I pray that they would find Jesus as their savior and begin making music that glorifies the King.  Parents guard your children’s spirits.  Christians, guard your own spirits.  Use your music to glorify God and draw you into closer intimacy with Him.

These pictures will show you visually the spirit they embody and display.
