Seeking The Real King
Seeking the real King
By Liz King
Last night I was watching a thing on Egyptian pharaoh’s tombs. It was about Pharaohs that had been buried in the valley of the kings. One tomb had been chiseled 300 feet underground to prevent looting from grave robbers. Archeologists were acting like giddy school children at the thought of finding a kings tomb, their mummy, and their treasures. They gushed over the pharaohs and spoke of how they were considered gods. Egyptian priests would live, work, and be paid to keep the pharaoh’s memories alive in temples to make sure generations did not forget and worship the dead pharaohs.
As I was watching this I began to thank Jesus and see the contrast of my King and their kings. Even though I love archeology, these men spend their lives chasing dead kings, dead gods, and all that is left are bones that are scattered recklessly in these tombs that were plundered by grave robbers. Many of the tombs are scoured for identification for this pharaoh who had been forgotten thousands of years ago. Yet I got excited because my king was murdered over two-thousand years ago but unlike the kings of Egypt, my kings grave is empty, not by grave robbers, but by resurrection!! My king got back up!! My King didn’t have to bribe the gods of the underworld, he kicked their butts!!! My kings grave is still empty and even with it being empty NO ONE has forgotten his name!!! Two-thousand years later he is still worshipped! The Pharaohs of Egypt had to hide their tombs, Jesus broke open his own! Priests were paid to keep pharaoh’s memory alive, my king had 500 eye witnesses that saw him alive and people pay with their lives to share his life. Unlike the pharaohs of Egypt, my king is still alive and still appearing to his people.
Why is it that people would rather look for kings who are dead, that served gods who had no power, than search for the truth of the one living God and King? His treasures are eternal and cannot be plundered. People don’t have to be paid to not forget him. We don’t have to search to find his name. He cannot be forgotten, no matter how much people try to suppress him. He is the afterlife!! Before time, He was!
My king didn’t serve other gods because HE IS GOD!!!!
So, while people get excited about a dead king who paid priests to not be forgotten. My king is alive and his people don’t have to be paid to remember him, they end up giving their lives to share his. If we have such an awesome King, why does the world choose to chase after dead ones? Why is a pharaoh that is decomposed and still in their tomb more interesting than the king whose tomb IS STILL empty?
In a class at church, I am taking called Alpha Omega we were talking about how when Jesus resurrected no one could comprehend or believe of resurrection of the dead. And when witnesses saw it they couldn’t stop sharing it. That’s why the gospels in the New Testament are so important, they are eyewitness testimonies!! But now 2,000 years later on the other side of the resurrection people could care less and give no credit to the eyewitness accounts and about the resurrection of the dead. The world has become numb to thought of resurrection like it’s not a big deal or it’s untrue. They say it’s just a bunch of made-up stories, but there are several other sources outside the Bible that give evidence to it. If a pharaoh who had insane amounts of wealth can be forgotten, don’t you think it’s amazing that a poor carpenter who had no riches of his own on earth is being spread to the corners of the earth and can’t be forgotten??? No matter how many governments try to kill the truth it just keeps spreading. We were his riches! He was in the beginning. He spoke the universe into existence, he loves those who despise him. He is the only King who left his kingdom and CHOSE TO DIE for his people. Think about that. He chose to live among His creation, he chose to become a servant to his creation, he chose to become the sacrifice for his creation, he chose to redeem his creation.
