Do We Put God on a Schedule?
I went to a church once where there was a song, announcement, song, another announcement. Worship was broken and interrupted. Your heart could not really get in a heart of worship. Even if you worshiped beforehand it really didn’t help you to worship that way as a congregation.
What if we as a church body let the Holy Spirit completely take over the service? What would happen? The worship leader would be able to sense the spirit moving and just say to the pastor let’s worship a little longer. What if the pastor spoke and the spirit was on fire and said you know what, I’m gonna keep speaking! What would happen? The church isn’t there for us, it's there to glorify him.
I heard a pastor speak once and he said that his church was in worship and he saw Jesus walking in the midst of the congregation. Jesus was speaking to some, touching some, healing some and they felt the spirit move and they just continued worshiping and many people were touched. Lives were changed. Another time he witnessed in a church the spirit of God moving but then they kept to a schedule and God was not able to do as much in the church because they functioned in the flesh on their set schedule.
Are we limiting God’s work by worshiping on a schedule? Are we truly surrendering our time as a church to God or are we surrendering our time to a schedule? Even in our personal walk, Do we give God space and time to work and move? What if we broke free from the constraints of set worship time, prayer time, or even the message time? What would happen? In Acts the disciples prayed for days before the Pentecost. What if they had only given an hour? Would the church have grown like it did? Would The Gospelhave spread like it did? Healings happened? When Jesus spoke to the thousands it was for 3 days!!! Because they were there willingly letting Jesus set the schedule for His work to be done.
Do we let the spirit of God move freely in our services, life, work, or circumstances? Do we expect God to show up at the time we want him to and punch his time card and tell him you only have an hour to do something? Or do we step outside ourselves and our schedules and say here we are Jesus, do whatever you want. You are free to move as long as you want. Would revival happen? Healing? Deliverance? Freedom, a great awakening??? What is preventing us from doing this? People can always come and go as they please. We should never set the schedule, God should. If any pastor ever reads this, why not encourage your staff and say we have a schedule but today we are gonna allow Jesus to change the schedule and do what he wants! Let’s get back to the book of Acts where we live, breathe and worship on a heavenly schedule not an earthly one.
