Yo, Who’s Doin It? By Liz King I’ll never forget the Sunday after church when my life changed for the better. It was 1992. In a time of poofy sleeves, blue Jean skirts, big bangs, and bomber jackets. Life seemed simpler then. The only thing we questioned was if Zach and Kelly would be forever or would Screech ever win the affections of Lisa in Saved by the Bell. I lived in a very controlled religious environment where the only music I really knew was that of Sandy Patti, The Gathers, and Rich Mullins. While in the parking lot after church, one of my friends was playing a cassette tape in his mom’s car. It had a hip hop beat and a funky fresh sound. I was like what is this tape? I was then handed a DC Talk Nu Thang tape. When I went home I popped it in my Walkman and the best way to describe it is when Ralphie first laid eyes on the leg lamp in A Christmas Story.
